This section will present the contemporary production and animation background of two countries from the Central European area – Hungary and Slovakia. The presentation of the Hungarian animated films is a result of the co-operation with the partner organization, the Kecskemét Animation Film Festival.
Besides the film Mum, you will also see pieces that received awards from international juries at this year's Kecskemét festival; Mum is the latest film from traditionally honoured Géza Tóth. A selection of five films demonstrates the vast variety of animation techniques in use as well as different views on the medium of animation itself. Particularly the aforementioned Mum points to the technological apparatus of animation and its relation to general cinematographic technique of recording. Thus it asks the frequent question: is animation a category of cinematography, or is it the other way round?
The Slovakian organizers will personally present the young International Animation Festival FEST ANČA that was held in the multicultural center Stanica in Žilina for the second time. The Anigrad Now block will offer the most interesting animated works of Slovakian production from the last three years. This year's selection will be introduced by a festival spot of young creators in 3D – Peter Skala and Tomáš Slančík, who presented it at the festival of the competition MAya Award.
The director Ivana Šebestová will be represented by the film Four (the main Anča Award, success in Italy, Poland, Romania, and Russia). Visitors can also await one of the freshest tendentious films, Bird of Prey, by Peter Budinský, as well as specifically poetic About Socks and Love (winner of the Trickfilm Festival in Stuttgart, festival in Hungarian Györ or in France). You will also have the opportunity to encounter the action graduate film by Andrej Kolečník, Sniffler & Swine Strike. The space reserved for Slovakian animated films will be closed by a storming instruction for improving the effectiveness of work by Drahoslav Páluš.
