The Other Visions competition has been trying for three years to capture, map and make accessible the interesting works of professionals as well as amateurs. Often hardly classifiable, their work lies on the cross point of classical cinema and fine art; visually and narratively unique films which are on the border of animation and videoart.

The majority of films are made by authors from art schools, therefore not from the pure cinematographical environment. The admission requirements for competition are not too strict: the enrolled film should be an original artistic outcome of the author's attitude to his production, it should make use of animation techniques in an inventive way, it must have originated in the Czech Republic within the previous 18 months, and be suitable for projection in movie-theatre or on television screen in an art gallery. The curators of the competition select ten films every year, from which one is chosen by the international jury to be the winning film. The curator for this year is a historian and theoretician of electronic avant-garde, Lenka Dolanová. The ten competing films will be shown, not only on the cinema screen, but also, during the whole festival, on several screening boards at the Attic Gallery.
