Interdisciplinary forms of animation are among the pillars of the Festival of Film Animation. The issue of motion capture, a technology which makes it possible to record the movements of people, animals and objects digitally and to transfer them consequently to a digital model, resonates with the festival determination.

Motion Capture permeates, not only the world of animated film and feature film, but we can see it also in the area of computer games, the arms industry and, last but not least, in several branches of science. With motion capture there are a lot of strong gestures, statements, demonstrations of divine adoration as well as reproaches that it is not about connected animation. It is alluring to look into the spawn of historical development, at contemporary forms and in general into the practical functioning of this technology.

The Motion Capture section starts with a lecture by Pavel Hruboš. He will describe in greater detail the milestones within this extraordinary technology's development. The emphasis will be on historic coherence and, last but not least, on Motion Capture as a phenomenon that has had an undisputable influence on contemporary films and advertisements. The SIGGRAPH delegation and their workshop will provide a unique opportunity to peep into Motion Capture's kitchen. Within two Friday blocks, Ondřej Maršíček will introduce, together with the organization, Prague ACM SIGGRAPH the basic principles, contemporary situation and near future of highly sophisticated optical Motion Capture cameras. This "futuristic" section closes with the screening of Zemeckis's, doubted and the highly praised film, Beowulf (2007), which uses Motion Capture technology.
