mocap

While so-called mocap (motion capture) is a useful assistant within the sphere of computer games, military or science, it still arouses inconsistent reactions within the context of animated film, and many theoreticians (including audience) still cannot accept this technology. Is it really such a controversal matter?

PAF brings you the unique opportunity to look underneath the mocap's surface. It will present Zemeckis's Beowulf, a movie, which divided the animation lovers into two irreconcilable groups two years ago – it also provoked the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to disallow its nomination for the Oscars, because it is not really an animated film, according to them.

It is difficult to answer the question whether mocap is really such an enemy to animation, whether it makes from it a mere slave of reality or not. Our guests, who will visit Olomouc in December, could help solving it, though. Pavel Hruboš with his lecture on the context of development of the Motion Capture and the representatives of the Czech Siggraph, who will demonstrate how far the progress of the technology has gone in recent years, what its present days look like and what will be its direction in the years to come. Those very guests have also prepared for you a workshop, where you will have the opportunity to experience mocap in reality.
